Subcommittee Mission & Vision

Mission/Vision:  The Mission is:

to advance Child and Family Teams that assure safety, stability, success, connections, and optimal outcomes for children, youth, and their families at home, school, and in the community; and to provide cross-agency curricula, training, and evaluation

The Strategy For Developing The Curricula:

integrates multiple agency functions into “one child, one team, one plan”; maps the requirements of Child and Family Teams for different public agencies (e.g., When is a meeting required? Who calls the meeting?); proposes seven guiding principles for Child and Family Teams; connects these guiding principles to good practices and model selection; proposes three training participant groups (facilitator, family, team member); and specifies competencies for each guiding principle.

Subcommittee Priorities for 2021-2022

  • To prepare staff and organizations for the tailored plan as CFT-1 from the Family Perspective in a required training
  • Continue to strengthen partnerships with parents, youth, the Department of Health and Human Services: Division of Social Services (DSS), Division of Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Substance Abuse Services (DMH/DD/SAS), and Division of Public Health (DPH); the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DJJDP); the Department of Public Instruction (DPI); and universities.
  • Developing a virtual version of CFT-1 for use during the pandemic
  • Providing a virtual Train the Trainer
  • Developing and housing an up-to-date list of certified CFT-1 trainers.
  • Housing CFT on line training through the Helping Hands Portal

2021-2022 Completed Goals

  • Transformed the face -to -face training into a virtual format in partnership with Missy Greene, Training Director with Hope Services
  • Facilitated the two train the trainer sessions in a virtual format. This included Department of Public Safety staff that was recruited by Teka Dempson. This is significant because they are the first team trained in CFT-1 from DPS.
  • Observed and provided those involved in the virtual train the trainer with certificates with a seal that indicates their official certification.
  • Compiled an updated list of certified CFT-1 trainers that is now housed with the training committee. This involved locating individuals who had changed positions; contacting individuals to see if they were still interested in training CFT-1; compiling new position titles, e-mail addresses and other contact information.
  • Developed a training for face-to-face trainers on how to train the content virtually. This workshop was recorded for trainers to access if they were not able to attend the workshop on the dates provided.
  • Worked with LME/MCO leaders to ensure their staff had access to virtual training; and worked with their staff to become trainers
  • Promoted CFT-1 training to the CFAC Staff through Kate Barrow at the Division of Mental Health; and NC Department of Public Instruction through Lisa Taylor
  • Recruited new members for the training committee.
  • Worked to enhance the use of the Helping Hands Portal for the Collaborative’s use.

2022 Anticipated Goals

  • Developing a way to track participants in CFT-1 training statewide
  • Exploring ways to provide TA to staff who are facilitating CFT meetings.
  • Supporting CFT-1 trainers through support groups; observation; and other individualized needs
  • Explore other training that enhance the partnership of families, youth and agencies in CFT’s.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1How do I become a trainer for CFT-1 from the Family Perspective (revised) training?
In order to qualify to train the curriculum, a team of an agency person and a family partner would first go through the two-day training with certified trainers. Then, your team would go through a three day train the trainer. To receive your final certification, your team would be observed doing a training. After that, you would receive your certification to train.
2How is the training delivered?
The training is mandated to be trained by an agency staff person and a family partner. This models the partnership we promote in our system of care model.
3Who do I contact to see who trains this curriculum in my area of the state?
Contact Teka Dempson or Joanne Scaturro and they will insure that you are in touch with who is certified to train in your area.
